Product Details

Portable Briefcase Solar panels - 7 watts 12 volts

A briefcase portable solar panel kit that will be a handy addition to any camping and outdoor kit. The maximum output is almost 400mAmps and with the amorphous solar panels they actually operate better then crystalline solar panels in hot and cloudy weather.

These portable solar kits are becoming very popular but most folding panels are quite large and bulky so its great to be able to offer a smaller version of the popular
briefcase style solar panel kits for smaller solar power needs.

This little solar kit would be handy for charging up smaller batteries
while out camping.

The 7 watt amorphous solar panels provide about 400mA current in full sunlight  to charge up small to medium sized 12 volt batteries.

It can also double as solar charger for mobile phones and other small devices that have small batteries and can be charged using their  car charger.

The kit comes with two cables, one with battery clamps and another lead with a cigarette plug that plugs in a car cigarette socket to trickle charge the car battery. We can replace the plug with a socket so you can connect a car charger to recharge devices that have a car charger. Just select that in the options.

What are amorphous solar panels?
Amorphous solar panels, also known as thin film solar panels, are made up of a thin layer of silicon deposited on a sheet of glass.
They are less efficient than crystalline solar panels which have an efficiency of about 14% while amorphous solar modules are about 9%. This does no necessarily mean they are inferior, but just that it will take a larger area of thin film solar panel to produce the same output as a mono-crystalline or multi-crystalline solar module.
But they do have certain benefits, mainly their ability to maintain good efficiency at high ambient temperatures and the other is their ability to utilise a broader band of light frequencies to convert sunlight to electricity, that is why they are often used in indoor applications like calculators where the can work quite efficiently under artificial light. There is widely held, but false, belief that these amorphous types can operate better in cloudy conditions than crystalline types but that is not true, both types are still under perform in low light. A-Si panels though do work more efficiently when to partly shaded because of the difference in their construction, this known as shade tolerance. Their big selling points their ability to maintain a good current flow in high temperatures because unlike the crystalline solar panels they do not create internal resistance at higher temperatures.
