Solar Chargers for personal and portable electronic devices
A solar charger is a small solar panel with a battery.The solar panel charges the battery so it becomes a backup power supply to charge your mobile phone or other personal device. It can also charge your device while it is charging the storage battery.
Some solar chargers are more powerful and have adjustable voltages for charging larger devices like cameras.
When selecting a solar charger you should consider what the receiving device requires in terms of voltage and current. The voltage or potential difference is what drives the current.
Check the voltage required by you device.
It's no good selecting a solar charger that will only deliver 6 volts if the your device requires 9 volts. That's equivalent to connecting a fireman's hose to a garden tap to extinguish a fire, it just wont work. The voltage has to provide enough electrical pressure to force the charging current through the circuit and battery that is designed to accept 9 volts. It just won't work.
The solar charger should supply a good amperage.
The other consideration is the charger's current. If it sends out a current flow of 100 Milli-amps then it 's going to take a long time to charge up a battery that usually requires 500 milli-amps.
That's like like trying to fill up a large water bucket with your garden hose if you only open the tap a quarter-turn its going to take much longer to fill the bucket than if you opened the tap fully.
Select a solar charger with adjustable voltage for for charging a variety of devices. Voltage must be you first consideration. But is important to remember that too much voltage will damage and possible burn out a device that is designed to accept a lower voltage. choosing the right solar charger is very important. Once you have established the required voltage, then select the correct adapters and connectors and the solar charger will do it's job.
