Solar Regulators
A solar regulator is is used to control the charge going to the battery
A 12 volt solar module generates a peak voltage of about 18 volts so this voltage needs to be controlled to ensure the battery is properly charged.
Tthe 18 volts is maintained at 13.5 to 14.5 volts to avoid damaging the battery.
Batteries are easily damaged by overcharging and the power from the solar module must be continually adjusted before it is fed to the battery. The solar regulator will ensure the batteries receive the optimum level of current at the correct voltage.
