5 watt 12 volt portable solar power Kit
The kit contains:
- 5 watt lightweight semi-flexible solar panel with 2 meter cable and car charger plug. The solar panel has corner holes so it is easily attached to any surface. The solar panel and attached cable are waterproof and corrosion resistant.
- 7.2 amp hour 12 volt sealed AGM Battery in a carry bag with car charger socket is used as a portable power pack. Simply connect the solar panel to the battery either by connecting directly to battery terminals using the battery clips or plug the cigarette lighter plug into the 12V socket
Specifications
- 7.2Ah battery has a rated 20 hour capacity of 7.2 amp hours. That means that it will supply a current of 0.36 amps for 20 hours, or it will supply double that current (7.2 amps) for 10 hours, etc. But to get the maximum life from a battery it should be recharged before 50% (3.5Ah) of the battery charge has been used.
- 5 Watt solar panel will supply about 1Ah per day for recharging the 12V battery. This is based on a clear sunny day with 4 hours of peak sunlight.
- 150 Watt inverter will a maximum of 150 watts for powering any AC device and/or USB device.
How to use the kit
Place the solar panel in full sunlight without any part in shade, as even a small part of the solar panel in shade will greatly reduce output. Generally speaking, it should face north at about 35 degrees to the horizontal for best performance. Keep it clean by wiping with a damp rag. The solar panel and attached cable are waterproof but all plugs and connections should be kept dry to prevent corrosion.
The car charger plug connects the solar panel cable to the battery using the car charger socket in the battery bag. The solar panel will then be able to charge a battery placed in the battery bag.
Connect the red clamp to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal*
The battery bag and car charger socket is used as a portable power pack. Place a battery in the bag and slide the charger socket’s connectors over the battery tabs.
Connect the red lead to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black lead to the negative (-) terminal.*
*Caution incorrect connections can cause damage as the polarity will be reversed.
The car charger socket is used to either charge up the battery in the bag or take power from it. Any device with a car charger plug can be powered from the car charger socket.
The 7.2Ah battery has a rated 20 hour capacity of 7.2 amp hours. That means that it will supply a current of 0.36 amps for 20 hours, or it will supply double that current (7.2 amps) for 10 hours, etc. But to get the maximum life from a battery it should be recharged before 50% (3.5Ah) of the battery charge has been used.
How much is that in watts? Watts is the total power used, a combination of amps and volts, therefore Watts = Volts x Amps, so if you have a 20 watt halogen light running off 12V battery power then it will be drawing 1.67 amps and that would use 3.3Ah in 2 hours.
